Mike Nelson is a Construction Manager at Farr West Engineering and is responsible for overseeing the company's construction management and inspection services. Mike has over 13 years of extensive experience with the quality control and inspection of capital improvements, and is proficient in local and state regulations. As part of his construction management responsibilities at Farr West, he manages multiple construction projects and works closely with the resident field inspector, owner, and contractor to ensure the construction is in accordance with the engineering plans and specifications, while also being mindful of the project budgets. Mike also has experience in the coating inspection of welded steel water storage tanks.
As Engineering Department Manager for Lyon County Utilities prior to joining Farr West, Mike organized and developed the utility engineering department for Lyon County and assisted in the development of water and sewer ordinances for backflow prevention, fats oils and grease program, and storm drain program. His responsibilities at Lyon County included the review of all proposed utility plans to ensure that the intended improvements met or exceeded the standards and specifications set forth by Lyon County Utilities and the State of Nevada. In addition to approving permits to construct proposed utility improvements and developing standard utility details and specifications for Lyon County, he also performed field inspections for many of Lyon County's construction projects.
Mike has numerous certifications including OSHA Construction Safety and Health 30 hour Course, Backflow Testing and Cross Connection Specialist, Backflow Prevention Certified #10902, NDOT Flagging Operations and Maintenance Traffic Control, Nuclear Gauge, ACI Concrete Testing, Reinforced Concrete Inspection, Storm Water PS3, PVC Sanitary and Storm Sewer Applications, and NDEP Drinking Water Vulnerability Assessment and Emergency Planning Training.
